There are 63 checkpoints across the state border of the Russian Federation in the region of activity of the DVTU: 30 sea, 11 mixed, 9 air, 7 automobile, 4 railway, 1 river and 1 pedestrian. 46 of them are functioning.

On October 25, 1991, the first President of Russia, Boris Yeltsin, signed a decree "On the establishment of the State Customs Committee of the RSFSR" (now the Federal Customs Service). This opened a new page in the history of the Russian customs.

A few years later, this date - October 25 - became a professional holiday of Russian customs officers (Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 811 of August 4, 1995 "On the establishment of the Day of the Customs Officer of the Russian Federation"). Having established it, the state recognized the importance of the profession and the importance of the contribution of the customs service to the socio-economic development of Russia, ensuring its security and sovereignty. Throughout the course of its recent history, the customs service has confirmed the legitimacy of the high assessment of the state.

By the way, October 25 has long been considered a significant day in the history of the Russian customs service. It was on this day in 1653 that a Single customs charter appeared for the first time in the country, born from the decree of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich on the collection of customs duties "in Moscow and Russian cities". From that moment on, customs became a state service protecting the economic interests of the state.

Today, the Russian Customs Service is rightfully considered one of the most developed customs services in the world. Its technical equipment, the use of the latest information technologies, the availability of a legislative framework corresponding to international standards, qualified personnel — all this gives reason to consider customs a reliable support of the Russian state.
